The team at THQ Nordic was trying to save its latest project as a surprise for this week’s Gamescom presentation, but that couldn’t stop some leaks being made about it. But now it can officially be said – the company is bringing BioMutant to the table.

The forthcoming kung-fu laden role-playing adventure will make its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2018. It’s currently under development over at Experiment 101, which consists of a number of former team members from Avalanche Studios, who worked on the Just Cause franchise.
As you can see from the screenshots in the attached gallery, BioMutant is going all out with its ambition, as players “change their character’s abilities and appearance with powerful mutations, bionic prosthetics and weapons.” You’ll also be able to modify your characters with a number of new tools, such as razor-sharp claws and wings, as well as other “psi-mutations” like levitation, telekinesis and robotic limbs, amongst other cool things.
There will also be plenty of weapons available for your character to use, including swords and specialty firearms, as well as your cool martial arts techniques, which you can continue to improve upon over the course of your journey.
According to the game’s official description, “The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Acquiring new Wushu combat styles through progression, and learning from masters you’ll meet, constantly adds to your choices and makes sure combat never gets old.”
You can challenge all sorts of enemies in the beautiful post-apocalyptic world, and can also get around with ease thanks to the help of vehicles like air balloons, mechs, jetpacks and jet skis.
The trailer for BioMutant can be seen above (originally posted by IGN). It’s still a ways off, but we like the direction that this game seems to be taking.
