Up until yesterday, we could only guess what Cate Blanchett‘s Hela would like in Thor: Ragnarok based on concept art that Marvel released. In those two pieces of artwork, we got a back-and-front-view of Hela donning her iconic headdress, but when official photos of the mysterious and powerful villain were released yesterday, her Goth eye shadow and her long dark hair were on display, but she was sans headdress.

As we know with Thor and his hardly ever worn helmet, just because it’s included in the film’s concept art doesn’t mean the actor will actually wear it. However, that won’t be the case with Hela.
While being asked if she researched Hela’s comic book backstory, Blanchett revealed that the headdress will used at times.
“Oh yes. I mean, you gotta know the history of the character,” the two-time Oscar-winner told EW. “And there are so many iterations of the origin story. For any of these characters, there’s never one origin story. But yes, it was really interesting to go back. Most of the time she was masked. So that’s what I really talked to the Marvel team and Taika [Waititi] about was when we would chose to have her masked and when she wouldn’t be masked.”
And that headdress won’t just be an accessory? “Yeah. She’s able to manifest weapons,” she shared. “Her headdress can be weapons. She can manifest weapons out of different parts of her body. I won’t tell you which โ I’ll leave that hanging.”
