Ben Mendelsohn, who is known for recently playing Director Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is in talks to play the film’s villain opposite Brie Larson, according to a new report from Variety.

If he enters the project, he would be reunited with his Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

There’s no word of who Mendelsohn would be playing in the film, though with the inclusion of the Skrulls seem to indicate that he would be playing someone of the green, rough-chinned variety.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige revealed some new information at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, when he announced the film would take place in the ’90s along with the news that the Skrulls would be the antagonists. Concept art shown during the Marvel Studios presentation offered fans an early look at how the alien race would look in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Samuel L. Jackson will also be reprising his role as Nick Fury, though he might have both eyes intact given that the movie takes place in the past.

Mendelsohn could be playing Dorrek VII, the leader of the Skrull Empire as created by Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, and Stan Lee. Though the character first appeared in Fantastic Four comics, Marvel’s deal with 20th Century Fox allows for some shared characters (such as Quicksilver). Director James Gunn previously intimated that Fox has the rights to some specific Skrulls, like the Super-Skrull, but there’s no word on who has the rights to more obscure characters like Dorrek.

If Mendelsohn is indeed cast as Dorrek, or some kind of stand in for the character, it would lend itself to an eventual Secret Invasion storyline, building toward the rise of Queen Veranke and her grudge against humanity.

Hopefully we learn more as we get closer to the debut of Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel is scheduled to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
