Thor: Ragnarok is shaping up to be one of the best Marvel films in years, but it also might be the funniest, and that is rubbing some the wrong way.

The humorous tone is evident in the film's new trailers and tv spots, and while most applaud the change of direction, some are not so happy. Those adverse to having a good time have taken their criticism directly to director Taika Waititi, with one in particular garnering a reply.

One Twitter user said "we want more Winter Soldier and less #GoTG or #ThorRagnarok. Don't say they bad but a rest from comedy is needed." Waititi addressed the user's qualm head-on, saying "Agreed. The world is too hilarious right now. There too much laughter in real life for a movie to be "fun". Down with happiness!"

Well done Taika, well done.

Ironically the director addressed this way back in February, as well, before much footage had even hit the internet. There were those who didn't like the new direction, to which Waititi responded "Sounds like they need to laugh."

If you look back at the franchise, the Thor movies have been some of the funniest films in Marvel's arsenal, especially the first one. Now that is just being taken a bit further, but Ragnarok still tells an epic action-packed tale regardless of the increased amount of laughs.

Also, you can have both, and for every Thor: Ragnarok there is a Black Panther and Infinity War to balance it out.

Waititi has been upfront on the movie he wants to make, and being dark and gritty just isn't on the to-do list. "It's fun," Waititi told ComicBook.com. "I wanted to make an adventure that people could leave the cinema feeling uplifted and feeling like they've been on an adventure, it's been fun, and just being entertained."

The director also had a bevy of comedic stars at his disposal, including Thor star Chis Hemsworth.

"Chris [Hemsworth] especially, he's one of the funniest guys I know," Waititi said. "We really exploited that, I really tapped into that side of him. You're going to see a version of Thor that's the most fun and I think the most lovable, a version of Thor I think that people are going to like."

Fans can judge the performance for themselves when Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3rd.
