Will Patrick Stewart Appear In Deadpool 2?

When Logan hits theaters in just a week (currently the 4th Most Anticipated Film ranked by ComicBook.com readers), it will mark the end of Hugh Jackman's long tenure as the Wolverine. But one of his co-stars isn't done just yet.

Patrick Stewart, who has portrayed X-Men leader Charles Xavier for just as long as Jackman's played Logan, has indicated that he's not yet done with the character.

But where might Professor X pop up next?

Well, he may have inadvertently let that slip courtesy of prodding from Jackman.

While promoting the release of the James Mangold-directed film Logan, Jackman and Stewart took some time answering fan questions on Twitter to the Huffington Post.

One Twitter user asked whether Stewart could "ever see Charles Xavier meet Deadpool."

Stewart's response was jovial and typical of an actor responding to a fan's dream scenario, giving Jackman a bit of a tease in the process.

"I would love that. Just set it up," Stewart responded before turning to Jackman. "You have influence in these, right? Make it happen, Hugh."

Jackman responded "Is it gonna happen?"

"Yeah, sure."

But then the hints drop when Jackman responds, "I thought you were gonna announce something else."

"Did you?"

"When you were *whistles*" Jackman said, causing Stewart to give him a stern look and denial. Jackman begins laughing while Stewart motions for the camera feed to cut. The clip ends as Jackman says "Now or never! I love it. I would pay to see that."

So now we have to read into this because that's what we're paid to do!

Was Jackman hinting at Stewart's involvement in Deadpool 2?

Of course Stewart would give an actor's response, saying "I would be interested in that, but it's above my paygrade!" But Jackman seems to tease that they both know more than they're letting on.

Coupled with Stewart's denial and action afterward, he might not want to get in trouble for letting the announcement slip before official word breaks.

Deadpool already made reference to Xavier in the first movie, questioning whether he'd be seeing "McAvoy or Stewart?" when Colossus threatens to take him to see the Professor. Typical fourth wall-breaking Deadpool.

With Deadpool 2 beginning production in a couple of months, might we see Stewart's Xavier make his next appearance there? Hopefully Jackman just let the cat out of the bag, because we, too, would pay to see that.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
