Sonya Balmores On If Auran Will Get Comic Book Look In 'Marvel's Inhumans'

Marvel fans who tuned into last night's television premiere of Marvel's Inhumans may have noticed that the Inhuman called Auran looks a little more human than expected.

In the Marvel Comics universe, Auran has greenish skin and large, pointed ears. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Auran just looks like Sonya Balmores, the actress who plays the character.

Balmores says the live-action Auran is a little different from the comic book version, but that could change in the future.

"No, honestly, when I booked it and I went straight to the internet and my comic book store and I learned all I could about her, yeah, I was bummed," Balmores tells ComicBook.com. "'What? I'm not going to have green skin and the green ears and her superpower? So yeah, I don't know where the writers are going to go with it. When I got the part, they said, 'Its not that exactly,' but that doesn't mean it won't be."

That superpower she mentions is Auran's Inhuman "parabolic hearing," an ability that allows her to choose a word and hear it being spoken anywhere on the planet, an ability she's used for tracking in the past.

Auran could use that parabolic healing power since she has her work cut out for her in trying to track down Black Bolt and the other members of the Inhuman Royal Family who escaped to Earth during last night's premiere. Based on the preview for next week's episode, "Divide and Conquer," Maximus will be sending a team of Inhumans to help Auran out with the job.

Auran does have some powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She showed that she was capable of healing herself after being wounded by Medusa during a fight in the show's second hour.

Marvel's Inhumans' debut ratings were less than stellar, becoming the first television premiere of the season to earn less than a 1.0. Critics haven't been too kind to the series either, but perhaps things will turn around as the series continues on with its eight-episode first season.

Marvel's Inhumans airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
