Mark Ruffalo, who plays mild mannered Bruce Banner and his incredible alter ego the Hulk in Marvel Studios' Avengers franchise, took to Twitter Monday to tease the arrival of something "big."
Something big is coming...— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) November 27, 2017
The ominous tweet comes after Vanity Fair dropped four covers featuring Avengers: Infinity War and a photoshoot that assembled 83 Marvel stars to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Marvel Studios' shared Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Vanity Fair exclusives and Ruffalo's tweet suggest the anxiously-awaited first footage from the Avengers threequel will soon release online earlier than expected. An early release could be a result of Marvel Studios getting ahead of the leaked Sunday's trickling of goodies, when snippets of footage — including a lengthy clip from the film featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy — leaked online.
Marvel was similarly forced to release the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer in October 2014 after a low-quality version hit the internet before any official release. Marvel responded with a cheeky and appropriate tweet — "Dammit, Hydra" — and released an official, high-quality first trailer.
Ruffalo is notorious for his loose lips and inability to keep secrets: the actor even accidentally livestreamed part of Thor: Ragnarok during its world premiere in Los Angeles, a mistake for which he charmingly apologized. "I felt bad you weren't there with me," Ruffalo wrote on Twitter. "So I snuck you in. In my pocket."
Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo shared a tease on their official Facebook page centered around the number three, suggesting the trailer is three days away — giving it a Wednesday release date — or that it will come on December 3. After its online debut, the trailer will accompany Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters December 15.
Avengers: Infinity War, serving as a finale for the first distinct period of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hits theaters May 4. Ruffalo most recently reprised his role as Bruce Banner and the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, now playing.
