Jeph Loeb Explains Why Marvel TV Never Shows Avengers Tower

Avengers Tower was a fixture of New York in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All of Marvel's Netflix shows take place in the streets of New York, not far from where that tower sits. If the two franchises are supposed to be in the same world, why don't we ever see the tower on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, or even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC?

Well, according to Jeph Loeb, the answer has nothing to do with budget, and Marvel TV isn't trying to hide the Avengers existence from people. In fact, it's all just about perspective.

While speaking to Inverse about the current slate of Marvel television, Loeb was asked about Avengers Tower, and how it manages to stay out of sight on shows like The Defenders.

"I think it's much more that we look at it from the point of view of 'Where are we?' and having to establish that along the way," Loeb explained. "In many ways, being less specific helps the audience understand that this could be on any street corner. Where we're sitting right now, I can see the Empire State Building, but if we were sitting 30 blocks that way, I wouldn't be able to see the Empire State Building. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just means that we can't see it from where we are."

The more you think about it, the guy does make a compelling argument. Think about, for just a second, how meticulous we comic book fans can be. We pick through every scene of every show for Easter Eggs and hidden messages. If someone saw the Avengers Tower in the back of one shot, and then saw it at a different angle in a different episode, they'd compare the two scenes and try to figure out exactly where all of the scenes happened, likely finding a mistake in the process.

By keeping things vague in terms of location, no one can complain that, "That shot wasn't technically in Hell's Kitchen!"
