Dave Bautista‘s Drax the Destroyer has a heartbreaking history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, his heavy heart will be explored more thoroughly.
As the cover is pulled back on where Drax the Destroyer comes from in the movies, Marvel Comics fans will continue to hope for Drax’s daughter to one day make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Drax’s daughter is brought back from her death at the hands of Thanos and becomes a powerful hero under the name of Moondragon. She goes on to become one of Marvel’s most powerful telepaths.

If you’re hoping to see Moondragon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’re not alone. Drax actor Dave Bautista was asked if he hopes to see his characters daughter on the big screen at a recent press event for Vol. 2, just a day after the announcement of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“Yeah! Of course!” Bautista told ScreenRant. “I would love to tell more of the backstory of Drax. Whether or not that will happen, I don’t know. I don’t know if they’ll ever really focus on Drax, but I hope so. I think it’s a really interesting story.”
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Bautista revealed the truth behind Drax’s constant heartbreak which is often masked with his great big belly laughs.
“It’s such an ingenious way to tell a story because Drax is so heartbroken over the loss of his family, which we touched upon in the first one, but it’s so amazing that they can tell this story without Drax having to break down but through Mantis’ character because her character is so beautiful and so emotional,” Bautista said. “So, I think it was such an ingenious way to tell the story but not only to tell that story of Drax’s heartbreak but also to build that connection between Drax and Mantis. I mean it’s a really brilliant way to tell a story.”
As for that laugh, Bautista is quick to credit writer/director James Gunn. “Drax, I have to give credit to James Gunn for,” Bautista said. “He’s so brilliant.”
“It was a scene we were doing in the first film where I was laughing during the scene and he wanted me to laugh harder! The louder I got, the harder he laughed. I think just to amuse himself, he wanted me to laugh bigger and louder and the bigger I did I could just hear him laughing hysterically!” Bautista said of constantly bringing energy to the role. “I have a big voice. I’m an introverted person so I just don’t really speak loudly. I do have a big voice, I’m capable, so when I decide I need to bring the sound, I just can!”
