Ryan Reynolds Just Had the Perfect Response To Wonder Woman’s Box Office Dominance

It isn’t just its own DC Extended Universe stablemates that Wonder Woman is beating out at the box office; Marvel-based blockbusters like Iron Man and Deadpool are getting passed, too — and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds had the perfect response when he found out.

“The Merc May Be Filthier, but Her B.O. is Stronger,” Reynolds posted to Instagram. “Congrats.”

Wonder Woman has already passed the worldwide box office total of Man of Steel ($668 million), but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice remains the highest-grossing film in the shared universe worldwide ($873.3 million) and internationally ($543.2). The film is still breaking records; it’s on a pace to become one of the highest-grossing solo superhero movies (the highest-grossing in some international territories) and potentially to overtake Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 as the top superhero movie of the year so far.

Wonder Woman may also become the highest-grossing superhero origin film of all time, if it can pass Spider-Man (Sam Raimi’s version) before it wraps its theatrical run.

Deadpool became one of the most unexpected box office smashes in comic book movie history: an R-rated action-comedy with a foul mouth, an ultraviolent streak, and a fairly small budget, it is likely the most profitable superhero film in recent memory in terms of return on investment.

Wonder Woman has received nearly universal critical approval. The film broke the records for biggest domestic opening for a female director and the biggest opening for a female-led comic book film with $103.3 million. It is currently the fifth highest-grossing film of 2017 worldwide and is closing in on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales for fourth place.

Gal Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. She will return as Wonder Woman alongside the DC Extended Universe’s other heroes in Justice League in November 2017.
