Fans have been wondering just how connected Ant-Man will be to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know that Paul Rudd will reprise his role as Scott Lang for Captain America: Civil War, but could he go toe-to-toe with an actual Avenger in his debut?

It seems that Rudd and the rest of the Ant-Man writers at least considered the idea, as he revealed when discussing the movie’s “heist film” style story with THR:
Essentially, this is a heist film, and if you look at the structure of heist films, there is always a test run and the test run fails. In talking about what could be a good test run, we were just playing around with conversations and thought, “Oh my God, what if he actually fought an Avenger?” We started getting really giddy about this idea. It seemed like that would be a fun way to incorporate the universe into this film.
The idea of pitting Ant-Man against one of the Avengers was at least brought up, but did it make it into the film? Rudd neither confirms nor denies, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
In Ant-Man, with the ability to shrink in size but grow in strength, a con man must help his mentor protect the secret of his Ant-Man suit and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Check out when Ant-Man and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com’s Movie Release Schedule.
