Peacock Streaming Saoirse Ronan’s Underrated Action Thriller

Saoirse Ronan has proven herself as a powerhouse talent time and time again. Throughout her more-than-two-decade-long career, the actress has commanded the screen in movies like Lady Bird, Little Women, The Lovely Bones, and Mary Queen of Scots, but not all of her movies have received the appreciation they deserve. Ronan’s fans now have the chance to revisit one of the actress’ most underrated movies after it started streaming on Peacock.

In 2011, Ronan starred as a young girl raised in the Finnish wilderness by her father in Joe Wright’s action thriller Hanna, which started streaming on Peacock on September 1st. The movie marked the pair’s second collaboration after Atonement and centers around Ronan’s titular character, who was raised to be an assassin, as she comes out of hiding to embark on a mission across Europe with the CIA on her tail. Eric Bana, Vicky Krieps, Cate Blanchett, John Macmillan, Michelle Dockery, Jessica Barden, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng , and Tom Hollander also star.

Why You Should Watch Hanna

Hanna is an incredibly refreshing take on the action genre that blends action and thriller with a compelling coming-of-age story of self-discovery and identity as Hanna navigates her newfound independence and discovers the world beyond her father’s upbringing. The story is perfectly anchored by a great performance by Ronan in her first action film that proved she could hold her own against other veteran actors and had the range to pursue diverse projects across different genres. The actress delivered an incredibly nuanced performance as Hanna, capturing the emotional isolation and vulnerability of the character in contrast with her existence as a formidable, almost invincible assassin in a breakout performance that perfectly captures Hanna’s coming-of-age journey.

Despite having beautiful cinematography, well-choreographed and skillfully shot action sequences, a great soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers, and standout performances, Hanna is an overlooked movie that absolutely deserves more attention now that it has found a new streaming home. The film, which grossed $65 million at the worldwide box office, holds a 71% critics’ score and 66% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

New Movies Streaming on Peacock

Hanna is far from the only movie newly streaming on Peacock. The film arrived at the NBCUniversal’s streaming library on September 1st alongside a wave of other fresh titles, including both 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, 3:10 to Yuma, Billy Madison, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and Psycho, Definitely, Maybe, Downton Abbey, Miss Congeniality, and the first three Shrek movies.

Peacock rolled out even more new additions on October 1st when movies such as The Crow, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, Edward Scissorhands, Friday Night Lights, Hot Fuzz, all three animated How to Train Your Dragon movies, and Shaun of the Dead started streaming.
