Amazing Spider-Man 2 Final Trailer

Sony Pictures has begun showing preview screenings of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. IGN described the 33 minutes that they saw, and we've broken it down here for the video impaired. Of course, spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 follow, but they're only first act spoilers, so nothing major. The movie opens in the past. We see Richard Parker, a scientist at OsCorp. He's deleting files and killing off experiments, including some done on spiders. He takes some files and leaves, planning to escape with his wife and leave his son, Peter, behind. He gets on a flight to Geneva, with his wife, and begins uploading files. However, somebody doesn't want that information reaching the public. The flight crashes, and Peter Parker's parents die. Jumping to the present day, we see the chase sequence with Aleksei Sytsevich (sans Rhino suit, presumably that comes later), who steals a truck full of plutonium from OsCorp. Spider-Man saves the day in a sequence that ends with a pileup of cop cars, but then Spidey has a vision of George Stacy asking him to make sure Gwen doesn't get hurt. Cut to a graduation ceremony. Gwen Stacy is the valedictorian. She gives an ominous speech about how short life is and how they need to grab it while they have the chance. The film jumps forward in time. One year has passed. Peter and Gwen have broken up. They meet and have a flirty scene about laying down ground rules for their friendship. Then Gwen drops a bomb (figuratively speaking) on Peter: she has a scholarship offer from Oxford University. She's moving to London. Peter's spider sense begins to tingle. There's trouble in Times Square. We see Spider-Man's first meeting with Electro. It's a big set piece, with lots of special effects used to represent Spider-Man's spider sense and Electro's "electric vision." The spider sense is done in a style reminiscent of The Matrix. The electric vision is a visually heightened awareness of electrical currents, making lights brighter and allowing Electro to see where power is flowing to and from. The final sequence shown is of Harry Osborn going to visit Electro at Ravencroft. They strike a deal. Electro helps Harry get into OsCorp, and Harry will help Electro get revenge on Spider-Man. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes to theaters May 2, 2014.
