This summer, you can go see Batman in the theater (in The Dark Knight Rises). This fall, you'll be able to see Batman in The Theatre! Following a successful European and Latin American tour last year, the stage show Batman Live is coming to North America for an extended arena tour beginning in September. The project, more than two years in development, will feature an original story never before seen in comics or movies. It features more than 40 characters, including The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and The Penguin, and takes place in a variety of Batman comics settings including Wayne Manor and Arkham Asylum. It also features 3D relief sets and a 105-foot LED bat signal. The show itself is written by Allan Heinberg, who has a history in comics himself. Among other projects, Heinberg has written Young Avengers for Marvel and Wonder Woman for DC Comics. "What is compelling about Batman is that he's one of the rare super heroes who actually doesn't have super powers – he's human just like you or me," said Jim Lee, Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment, in a release.  "But through sheer determination, he has honed his mind and body to a level that makes him second to none and that's an aspiration we can all relate to and be inspired by.  To that end, this spectacular live show delivers an amazingly authentic experience which actually underscores how real Batman could be while entertaining both parents and kids alike." So far, there are 7 US cities on the schedule for September and October, presumably with more to be added if the show has the same kind of success in North America as it has elsewhere.
