About a month ago, the first projections for the opening weekend of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were strong, but wide-ranging, sitting at somewhere between $100-140 million. The movie's last projections ahead of the 6pm openings on Thursday, however, are even higher, at $160 million. That would put it right on par with The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, which took in $158 million and $160.9 million respectively.

The social media chatter is a significant booster to the expected total, even if some of it, thanks to negative reviews (Rotten Tomatoes has it below 40% fresh right now), is less than favorable. The positive side, however, is driven by the amiable stars and their personal activity, especially that of Gal Gadot.

Batman v Superman has a reported budget of $250 million, so a strong opening weekend would be a welcomed start for Warner Bros.
