Batman vs. Superman

Speaking to Esquire, Batman vs. Superman costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, discussed the design process for the film's new superhero costumes. When asked about the design for the new Batman suit, Wilkinson said that he talked about it a lot with director Zack Snyder and that the suit had a "logic" to it based on the cinematic universe that Snyder and company are building. "I talked a lot with Zack Snyder," said Wilkinson "He has such a great vision for this film, the cinematic universe that we're creating together with the production designer and the cinematographer. It has a logic to it. It's very tight. It's a very gritty, real, contemporary world. That's what I had in the back of my mind when I tried to think of a Batman that works for that universe." When Esquire asked him if there were nipples on the Batman suit, Wilkinson said he could neither confirm nor deny, but, when Esquire brought up Kevin Smith saysig that there were no nipples on the new suit, Wilkinson responded by exclaiming, "The world rejoices!" Wilkinson said that Superman's suit from Man of Steel would be getting tweaks to better fit into Snyder's new movie universe. Wilkinson also expressed a feeling of responsibility towards Wonder Woman, who doesn't have quite as much presence in popular culture as Superman and Batman do. "I think there's a huge responsibility we all feel about Wonder Woman," he said. "She hasn't been on the big screen in a movie ever. She's been on TV, of course, with the legendary Linda Carter. She's been drawn a million different ways in graphic novels and comic books so we're really sinking ourselves into that culture and educating ourselves about her backstory and really thinking hard about a Wonder Woman who is contemporary and reverberates with modern audiences." Batman vs. Superman will begin shooting in Detroit in April. It is scheduled to come to theaters May 6, 2016.
