Captain America The Winter Soldier Box Office

To say that Captain America: The Winter Solider annihilated the competition at the box office this weekend would be a huge understatement. Captain America: The Winter Solider scored an estimated $96.2 million in its opening weekend, and we wouldn't be surprised if that number rises further when official totals come out on Monday. While $96.2 million might be just short of the $100 million mark, it is a new record for the month of April. The previous record holder was Fast Five, which opened to $86.2 million back in 2011. Captain America: The Winter Soldier beat the previous record by a solid $10 million. To understand how completely Captain America: The Winter Soldier dominated this weekend's box office, one has to only look at the second highest grossing film in the U.S. for this weekend. In its second weekend of release, Noah took second place with an estimated $17 million at the U.S. box office. Captain America: The Winter Soldier beat Noah by almost $80 million. Divergent took third place with $13 million.
