Captain America The Winter Soldier Box Office

Yesterday, most were predicting that Rio 2 would win Easter weekend at the box office, but we predicted that Captain America: The Winter Soldier would likely win its third weekend in a row at the U.S. box office. Now with Friday's box office results announced, official projections for the weekend are backing up our prediction. On Friday, Captain America: The Winter Soldier topped the U.S. box office with $9.56 million. Rio 2 took second place with $9.2 million, and Heaven is for Real took third place with $7.85 million. Transcendence took fourth place with $4.81 million, which is a major disappointment for a film with a $100 million budget. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is now projected to win Easter weekend with between $24 million to $25 million, which should easily push the film past $200 million at the U.S. box office. Rio 2 is now projected to take second place with a U.S. box office take in the $23 million range. Back in March, we predicted, "All indications are pointing to Captain America: The Winter Soldier being another solid hit for Marvel Studios. Captain America: The Winter Solider should have a long run at the box office. The early April release date could prove to be a stroke of genius as well, because the film could easily wind up winning all four box office weekends of April, before things get really competitive in May." With not much in the way of major releases next weekend, it's looking more and more like our prediction of Captain America: The Winter Solider making a clean sweep of the April weekend box office will come true.
