Marvel Comics has stirred up a lot of speculation with some recent teasers. One of the teasers just released shows 52 slash marks with the Marvel Now logo. Most of the speculation around this 52 teaser is that Marvel Comics plans to do their own New 52 style reboot to copy DC Comics. However, considering that Marvel Now just recently launched, it would seem to be kind of odd for Marvel to do a reboot in the middle of a relaunch. Adding fuel to the relaunch speculation though is a previous teaser which showed a big #1 with various Marvel characters listed in the number. Most are assuming that the two teasers are related, but it could be that they are teasing two different initiatives. Before the #1 teaser, Marvel Comics also released an "Of The Dead" teaser, which most are speculating is separate from the latest two teasers. In fact, most speculation about "Of The Dead" suggests that it's likely a zombie series. But thinking about "Of The Dead" reminded us how much Marvel Comics likes death. What if instead of launching 52 new comics Marvel Comics is planning to kill off 52 characters? The red slash marks could be indicating the death of a character. They could roll it out over the course of a year, killing a character every week. Sometimes it might be a villain, other times it might be a back-up character, and occasionally it could be a major character. Again, this is just our own bit of speculation to be thrown in with all the other speculation out there, but we could totally see Marvel Comics killing a character every week. Would you prefer a death a week over yet another reboot/relaunch?
