While AMC's The Walking Dead is an already-short season for a TV series, and it's split up into two "half-seasons" that usually have their own mini-arc, that isn't to say the stories are by any means short, simple, or shallow.

Last season, the second half of The Walking Dead leveled up in a big way, bringing the characters from a nomadic group of in-fighting zombie slayers to part of a larger society, playing a key role in the evolution of the settlement of Alexandria.

In Season Six, the first half of the season teased Negan, a feared character from the comics whose first appearance was a game-changer for the series. And, according to actress Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on the AMC hit, that's just the start.

"It's so full of many different things. It's a really full meal. There is an experience that they're starting to go through that they've never experienced before, and it is new territory for them, though their response to it is based on a lot of what they've learnt in their past experiences," Gurira told EW. "But they are stepping into newer territory than they realize. There's also very specific character growth and experiences and arcs that are surprising — and I think very intriguing — that also occur in the midst of the larger arc, which is a very macro and ethic transformative experience for the group."

The Walking Dead returns from its midseason hiatus February 14 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
