Fox has announced that Gotham, the network's Batman prequel series, will premiere on September 22.

As described in the announcement, Gotham "follows one cop, destined for greatness, as he navigates a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the rise of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes. The entirely new, untold chapter comes from executive producer/writer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") and stars Ben McKenzie ("Southland," "The O.C."), Donal Logue ("Vikings," "Sons of Anarchy") and Jada Pinkett Smith ("Hawthorne," "Collateral")."

Gotham will air at 8 p.m. ET and be immediately followed by the Season 2 premiere of Sleepy Hollow at 9 p.m.

The first episode of Gotham will make its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, before airing on Fox.
