Fans took to Maz Kanata considerably in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The diminutive Force-sensitive bar owner was full of mystery, but also had an incredibly welcoming sense about her. Played by Lupita Nyong'o in motion capture and voice, it sure didn't seem like Kanata's story ended after the attack on Takodana.

Now, it seems we have confirmation that she'll be among those returning for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Writer/Director Rian Johnson posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Monday of Maz Kanata's face, as someone (presumably Nyong'o?) stood across from the screen. In the special features for The Force Awakens, they revealed how Nyong'o's motion capture allowed her to see a direct 1:1 reflection on a screen, allowing her to really match her movements and performance to Maz Kanata.

Mark Hamill also tweeted out a picture of himself with Lupita Nyong'o (and a side of Oscar Isaac), so she's definitely out on the set with them.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is filming now for a December 15, 2017 release.
