Spider-Man To Call Broadway Home

Hello Entertainment executives David Garfinkle and Martin McCallum announced today with representatives from Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures that they are to produce a Broadway musical starring the beloved wall crawler. Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will open at the Hilton Theatre in New York on February 18, 2010, with preview performances to begin a month earlier. The announcement ends speculation from a week-old report by Bloomberg News that the Marvel superhero's debut on Broadway would be delayed as the $31 million dollar musical was stuck in pre-production limbo.

U2's Bono and The Edge have been tapped to write the musical's score. The producer's also announced that Julie Taymor and Glenn Berger will write the story bible, with Taymor also filling the role of the play's director. At least one member of the cast is currently known. On Sunday, during her walk on the red carpet, actress Evan Rachel Wood confirmed reports that she had been tapped to play Spider-Man's long-time love interest, Mary Jane Watson, in the upcoming musical.
