Marvel has been trying to build a Hulk movie franchise for a long time. As perhaps their most recognizable character after Spider-Man, the Hulk would see to have huge potential. Back in 2003, there was the Ang Lee directed Hulk movie starring Eric Bana from Universal Pictures. The film was a modest success at the box office, but it got mixed reviews from critics and generally negative reviews from comic book fans. In 2008, Marvel Studios attempted to reboot the Hulk franchise with Edward Norton in the starring role. The Incredible Hulk was also a modest success at the box office, and the reviews and feedback from comic book fans was much more positive. However, a dispute between Marvel Studios and Edward Norton led to a recasting of the Hulk once again for The Avengers movie. In the Avengers, Mark Ruffalo becomes the third actor to play the Hulk in the last decade. And while the Avengers has yet to be officially released, early feedback has made it's way online from the world premiere. One consistent trend from the early feedback seems to be rave reviews for Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. XXL Editor-At-Large Shaheem Reid tweeted, "Just getting out of "The Avengers" world premiere. Thought the film was major. LOT of action, laughs and surprises. Hulk stole the show." Alex Billington of FirstShowing.net tweeted, "The Avengers - Epic. EPIC! Everyone fights everyone, but it does deliver. Marvel's movies get better every single one. Hulk! HULK!!" In an interview with IGN, Ruffalo expressed his desire to play the Hulk in a stand alone movie. Ruffalo said, "Yeah, I'd love to have him do his own movie." With Ruffalo interested and early viewers of The Avengers raving about the Hulk, it's likely only a matter of time before Marvel Studios revisits the Hulk franchise again.
