After releasing an all-new story by J.K. Rowling this morning about the founding of Ilvermorny, the American School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, as well as new information about the four houses within it, Pottermore, the online home for all things in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has activated the new sorting quiz for those houses.

The new sorting ceremony is handled on the site the same way it was for Hogwarts, with multiple choice questions like “A soulmate is…” and “Which is the better motto?” answered to determine to which house you belong. After the series of questions, you are sorted and given additional information about your house. For example, Thunderbird represents the soul, and favours adventurers. The Horned Serpent represents the mind, and favours scholars. Pukwudgie represents heart, and favours healers. Finally, Wampus represents body and favours warriors.

In the world of the story, the Sorting ceremony of Ilvermorny is quite different from that of Hogwarts. Rather than a living hat telling you what house you belong in after evaluation, at Ilvermorny, you stand on a symbol of the Gordian Knot in the middle of a chamber. Enchanted carvings of each house’s magical creature surround the knot, and react if they desire you in their house.

“Should more than one carving signify its wish to include the student in its house, the choice rests with the student. Very rarely โ€“ perhaps once a decade โ€“ a student is offered a place in all four houses. Seraphina Picquery, President of MACUSA 1920 – 1928, was the only witch of her generation so honoured, and she chose Horned Serpent,” Rowling writes in her new story.

Head to Pottermore now for your own sorting ceremony, and check out Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them later this year for more on Ilvermorny and the wizards and witches of America.
