Moviegoers at the AMC Theaters in Manhattan will no longer have to worry about missing out on those good seats if they fail to show up to the theater a few minutes early. Starting September 2, the audience will be able to pick their seats when purchasing tickets for movies at AMC theaters in the borough.Manhattan will become the first major market where almost all AMC venues will assign seats, according to Deadline.

U.S. Operations EVP John McDonald stated: “As we look at markets where we can begin to make reserved seating prevalent, there’s no better place to start than Manhattan, where a trip to the movies often means a subway or cab ride. Reserved seating lets moviegoers pick the exact seat they want when they make their movie-going plans and provides our guests with the confidence that their specific seat will be waiting for them when they arrive at the theater.”

The main venues that the change will impact include: AMC Village 7, AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13, AMC Empire 25, AMC Loews 34th Street 14, AMC Loews 19th St. East 6, AMC Loews Orpheum 7 and AMC Magic Johnson Harlem 9, and AMC 84th Street 6.

AMC already offers reserved seating at 125 of its locations, but most of these theaters provide luxury, plush seating at a premium ticket price.

CEO of AMC Theaters, Adam Aron, told analysts that a big part of the company’s plan to increase sales is the reserved seating feature. Also, he explained that the company is introducing a mobile app that ticket buyers can have food delivered to them at their seats whenever they want. Aron said that the first results were “encouraging and we would expect broad rollout sometime in the next three to nine months.”

Would reserved seating make you more inclined to visit an AMC Theater over that of of their competitors?
