The Chronicles of Narnia revival The Silver Chair has found a director in Joe Johnston, the director behind Captain America: The First Avenger and Jumanji.

Johnston will be directing a script adapted by David Magee (Life of Pi) and aimed to reinvigorate the property.
“Joe is a wonderful storyteller who is equally at home in the biggest franchises and the most intimate character pieces,” producer Mark Gordon said. “Because C.S. Lewis’ story is iconic and epic, but also tender, personal, and emotional, he’s the perfect choice to bring The Silver Chair to the screen.”
The Silver Chair adapts Lewis’ book of the same name that was published in 1953. It was the fourth published in the series and was previously adapted for TV by BBC in 1990.
The plot centers around the search for a lost prince and prominently features characters from the preceding entries in the series, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The film has been in development since at least 2013, with TriStar Pictures, The Mark Gordon Company, the C.S. Lewis Company and Entertainment One teaming up for the production.

The franchise was last seen in 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third in a trilogy of films that began with 2005’s adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Those films grossed close to 1.6 billion in theaters.
No release for The Silver Chair has been announced, and what connection, if any, it will have to the original series of films is not yet clear.
