In this Walking Dead-Hunger Games mashup, we create an alternate story where survivors of the zombie apocolypse must now face an even more dangerous threat: themselves.

Daryl Dixon
He’s bad to the bone, no doubt about it. This crossbow-wielding, motorcycle-riding survivor was born for the zombie apocalypse. His hunting, tracking and navigation skills means he can slither through any terrain undetected, sneaking up on his prey and eviscerating them before they knew what hit them.
If he’s able to find a crossbow in the arena, he’ll prove even more lethal, but his rough-around-the-edges personality makes getting support from the Capitols’s spectators very unlikely.
Even still, this brazen, foul-mouthed fighter is sure to be a top contender.

Daryl teams up with Rick Grimes and Glenn Rhee and proves his worth by saving the pair from an ambush from The Governor, Shane Walsh and Andrea Harrison, but his heroism costs him his life after being taken out by Shane.
Rick and Glenn lay covering fire with two pistols they scooped up at the Cornucopia at the beginning of the Games and retreat into the woods.
Later that night the cannon sounds and Darly’s name and face illuminate the sky.

Glenn Rhee
Glenn started as an unassuming character in The Walking Dead, but through circumstance and necessity he quickly became a hardened warrior and worthy adversary to Walkers and humans alike. This kind-hearted supply runner is not to be taken lightly.
His wife and love of his life Maggie Greene is also somewhere in the arena, but the pair were separated moments after the Games began. With Daryl dead, Glenn and Rick continue their search for Maggie while defending themselves from threats on every front.
Glenn’s resourcefulness and ability to scavenge helps his group stay far away from the Cornucopia and live off the few supplies they find within the arena. His love for Maggie wins the favor from the Capitol’s spectators and he receives support in the form of night vision goggles.

Glenn and Rick find themselves in an unavoidable confrontation with Sasha Williams, Morgan Jones and Merle Dixon. Glenn tries to reason with the group, but Merle blames him for his brother’s death and leaps onto him. The pair struggle on a rocky cliff and Rick rushes in to help, but is stopped by Sasha and Morgan. Ultimately Merle overpowers him and throws him over the edge, sending him careening to his death far below.
Rick flees for his life with Sasha, Merle and Morgan in pursuit and barely makes it to safety after ensnaring the group in a trap Daryl had set before he died.
Later that night the cannon sounds and Glenn’s name and face illuminate the sky.

Rick Grimes
A former deputy, Rick never let go of his badge after the outbreak. He’s a family man who loves his wife and child, but he’s also a trained marksman and fighter and natural-born leader.
Rick has proved time and again that he’ll do whatever it takes to survive and keep his group safe, but the Games prove even more perilous than the zombie apocalypse and after losing Daryl and Glenn he becomes overburdened with guilt.
The Capitol’s spectators take pity on Rick and send him a care package containing five rounds of ammunition.
His guilt soon turns to rage and just like when he stormed The Governor’s camp, this fearless sheriff seeks retribution for the trespasses against Daryl and Glenn. Armed with only a handful of bullets and Glenn’s night vision goggles, he sets out to find Sasha, Morgan and Merle.
Under the cover of darkness, Rick descends on Sasha, Morgan and Merle. A battle erupts around the low-burning campfire. While Rick is greatly outnumbered, he holds the element of surprise and manages to force Merle into the flames, burning him alive.
Morgan, armed with a staff he carved from a fallen tree, attacks Rick and jabs him in the stomach. Dazed, Rick unloads his handgun but misses. Sasha takes up the blade she found near the fringes of the Cornucopia and lunges at Rick. He dodges, but the blade still finds his skin.
Wounded and out of ammo, Rick flees into the woods for a second time and is relieved to find Sasha and Morgan are not following him.

The Governor
Potentially the most diabolical character from The Walking Dead, The Governor has as many issues has he does power. He’s unquestionably a charismatic leader, but his methods of survival are downright dirty.
He has no problem murdering and plundering, or even executing dissenters within his own group. But this ruthlessness lends itself well to surviving in The Walking Dead and in The Hunger Games.
In an act of bravery, courage or perhaps stupidity, The Governor rushed into the middle of the Cornucopia at the beginning of the Game and fought against Tyreese to win the only machine gun on the battlefield. He recruited Shane Walsh and Andrea Harrison into his regime and has been systemically hunting down the opposition ever since.
To his dismay, however, the other players have proved to be difficult prey to contend with. He raided Maggie Green, Michonne and Tyreese’s group, but wasn’t able to overpower Michonne’s whirling katana. He did, however, manage to escape with some of their supplies.
His tactics are unpopular among the Capitol’s spectators and none offer aid.
The Governor turns on his own group in the middle of the night, holding Shane and Andrea at gunpoint. Shane and Andrea are forced to run as The Governor opens fire, giving him the perfect opportunity to escape with their supplies.
Shane Walsh
Shane is nothing if not obsessive. He perseverated on Rick’s wife Lori and on taking over Rick’s position as leader. He’s tough, fearless and cunning beyond measure, making him well-adapted to the struggles of the Games.
Shane found a handgun at the beginning of the Games and has used that to hunt for his group. But after The Governor made off with his and Andrea’s supplies, he’s back at square one.
Normally, Shane never shies away from a fight, but something in the Games has changed him and instead of killing the people he loves, he and Andrea secretly plot an escape from the arena.
His strong survival mentality and demonstrated skills in the Games wins favor among the Capitol’s spectators and they give him aid in the form of food and water purification tablets.
While tampering with the edges of the arena in an attempt to escape with Andrea, Rick emerges from the shadows. Still furious over Shane’s affair with Lori, Rick tackles him and presses him against the invisible barrier of the arena, electrocuting him to death.
Andrea screams and rushes over to Shane, picking up his gun and firing at Rick. She hits him in the stomach and Rick, already wounded from his encounter with Sasha, Morgan and Merle, falls limp to the ground.
Later that night the cannon sounds and Shane’s name and face illuminate the sky.

Andrea Harrison
Intelligent, cautious and brave, Andrea is a stubborn zombie-apocalypse survivor who never backs down from a challenge. She’s changed sides more than once in The Walking Dead, but in the end she’s always loyal to her original group.
She’s well-equipped to survive the Games, but being alone puts her at a distinct disadvantage. With enough food and supplies to survive for at least a week, Andrea decides the best course of action is to hide out as far away from the combat as possible.
Her inactivity displeases the Capitol’s spectators and the Gamemaker, who releases a pack of genetically-altered wolves to force her back into the action.
As Andrea runs for her life from the wolves she stumbles across Merle, who is cleaning his burn wounds in the river. Merle is caught off-guard but quickly assesses the situation and dives for his nearby gun. But Andrea is quicker and fires a fatal shot.
Unfortuately, her pause has given the genetically-altered wolves a chance to pick up her scent and she falls prey to the pack.
Later that night the cannon sounds and the sky illuminates with her name and face, and Merle’s name and face.

Maggie Greene
A woman whose bravery knows no bounds, Maggie is an intelligent and caring woman for the people. She’s always helping those in need and caring for those who can’t care for themselves. But despite her kind-hearted nature, she still possesses a fierce survival instinct.
Armed only with a small knife, Maggie joins forces with Michonne and Tyreese. The group has already fended off an attack from The Governor, Shane and Andrea, and are running low on supplies, but that doesn’t mean they’re giving up.
Distraught over the loss of Glenn, Maggie loses the desire to live and becomes a reckless liability to her team. She refuses to hunt, barely contributes and won’t eat.
The Capitol’s spectators feel her pain and sympathize with her loss. They send her aid in the form of information: The location of Sasha and Morgan.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Maggie sets off to avenge her husband’s death by finding Sasha and Morgan. Michonne and Tyreese agree to help, and on their journey they find Rick, badly injured and on the verge of death.
Rick explains what happened to Glenn and how he tried to help. Maggie decides to take Rick into their group and helps nurse him back to health.
Michonne
A mysterious warrior with unparalleled fighting prowess, Michonne is a katana-wielding, zombie-killing machine. She has little need of words, and instead lets her blade do most of the talking. She’s lethal, and when she has her eyes set on a target, few have ever walked away alive.
Michonne is a valuable asset even without her sword, but after scooping up a katana at the beginning of the Games, she’s someone you definitely want to steer clear of. She teamed up with Maggie and Tyreese and was the primary reason the group made it out alive after The Governor, Shane and Andrea attacked.
She often scouts ahead and determines the path for her group, but because of this she’s often more exposed than her group.
Her incredible skill and fighting ability wows the Capitol’s spectators, who reward her with a care package in the form of sharpening stones for her katana.
During one of her scouting missions, Michonne detects a faint scent of smoke. She follows her senses to find The Governor alone and huddled around a small fire. Michonne doesn’t hesitate to strike, but The Governor is quick on his feet and grabs a burning log from the fire. He parries Michonne’s first strike, but the next one cuts him down where he stands.
With a flick of her wrist, Michonne cleans her blade and returns to her camp.
Later that night the cannon sounds and the name and face of The Governor illuminate the sky.
Tyreese
Potentially the physically-strongest character from The Walking Dead, Tyreese is a compassionate and unselfish individual who struggles with his own morality. While he understands killing is sometimes necessary to protect those he loves, he will go to extreme lengths to prevent bloodshed.
In the Games, Tyreese has worked diligently to protect his group, and after stumbling across Rick with Maggie and Michonne, that group has just grown by one.
He fought against The Governor at the beginning of the Games for the sole machine gun, but ultimately lost. Now, he’s armed only with his fists.
The Capitol’s spectators admire Tyreese’s protective nature and reward him with a supply drop in the form of a hammer.
Tyreese is uncomfortable with Michonne continually scouting alone, and decides to start accompanying her. They have been hunting for Sasha and Morgan and know they must be close. Unbeknownst to Michonne, Maggie and Rick, Tyreese is secretly planning to reunite with his sister Sasha and, like Shane, attempt to escape the arena.
During one of their scouting missions, the pair are ambushed by the very people they are tracking down. Sasha and Morgan attack Michonne, but as Tyreese moves in to help he springs a trap and is yanked upwards, suspended helplessly from a tree.
Michonne’s blade glints in the moonlight as it whirs through the air. Morgan, however, is also an incredibly adept fighter and is an equal match. He disarms Michonne and Sasha rolls across the ground and snatches the loose blade, stabbing Michonne with one, swift motion.
It’s then that Morgan realizes he has been mortally wounded. He slumps against a tree while Sasha frees her brother from the snare.
Morgan, unable to even move, convinces the brother and sister to flee. Tyreese and Sasha reluctantly comply and sprint towards the edges of the arena. But the Gamemaker has been attentively watching and sends down fire and brimstone on the siblings, setting everything around them ablaze.
Later that night the cannon sounds, illuminating the sky with the names and faces of Tyreese, Sasha, Morgan and Michonne.

Finale
Only Maggie and Rick remain, and they both know it. Rick is badly injured, and Maggie refuses to kill the man who tried to save her husband. Instead, Maggie continues to tend to his wounds.
The Gamemaker drops multiple care packages filled with lethal weapons, but neither Maggie nor Rick make any effort to use them against each other.
Frustrated, the Gamemaker comes over the speak and his voice echoes through the arena. He warns them they must fight each other to the death, or they will both be killed.
Undeterred, Maggie helps Rick to the cliffs where Glenn was killed. Standing at the precipice, they peer over into the abyss. Far below, Maggie can just see the outline of Glenn’s body.
Prepared to jump, they join hands. The Gamemaker comes over the speaker again, but his voice is a distant muffle in their ears.
They close their eyes and count down from threeโฆ
