Ratings are no longer the only indication of a TV show's success. There are other factors like DVR, on demand, and digital viewing, commonly known as "time-shifted" viewing, and then there's the formerly intangible buzz that now, thanks to social media, can be measured. On Twitter's official blog, they did just that, quantifying the buzz of the fall TV season, and many comic book and genre shows are leading the pack.

21 million tweets about fall TV were recorded over the summer from June 1 until September 14, 2015, according to the blog, with the grand majority of chatter - about 90% - about returning shows.

While it may be in second place, Supernatural does take the title as top geek show, beating out The Walking Dead by about 100,000 tweets. The Flash saw the highest growth from its first season to its second in anticipation: a staggering 1,378% increase (or a 1,637% increase, depending on if you go from their text or their infographic).

Of "new shows," which includes American Horror Story: Hotel because of the altered cast and premise, and The Late Show because of the new host, four of the top five are genre. Aside from Colbert's debut, fellow Ryan Murphy horror show Scream Queens sits at #3 for new shows, while Heroes Reborn and Supergirl round out the top five.

Now, will all this buzz generate viewership and ratings? That's the question likely being asked all over TV studios as seasons officially kick off over the course of the next few weeks.
