4 new species of weevil were discovered in Papua New Guinea (via USA Today), and one, in particular, had something in common with Han Solo’s right-hand Wookie Chewbacca. The weevil has dense scales on its head and legs, and researchers drew a parallel to Chewbacca’s dense fur, thus the species was fittingly named after Chewy. The official scientific name of this weevil is Trigonopterus Chewbacca.
While the other 3 species were not named after Star Wars, the newly minted weevil does join a catfish that was named after Greedo, called Peckoltia Greedoi.
