We’ve already spotted some a lot of clues that most viewers missed in the trailer, and even a connection between this Last Jedi teaser in The Force Awakens trailer – but one savvy fan spotted a shot that pays thematic ode to the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and possibly hints at some big revelations.
As you can see below, the shot in question is of Rey (Daisy Ridley) standing on the planet Ahch-To, where she is training with Luke Skywalker; the shot is a strong visual call back to Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, contemplating things after having crossed a serious romantic line with Natalie Portman’s Padmรฉ.
What exactly Rey is contemplating in this shot from The Last Jedi is a mystery; however, it being the callback that it is, there’s suggestion that Rey could be struggling with similar possibilities of light and dark that Anakin did in the second prequel film, and Luke did in the second Original Trilogy film (Empire Strikes Back). In other words: The Last Jedi is simply honoring tradition.
…And maybe (just maybe) it’s also a hint of what Rey’s true origins might be…
I hate the idea of Rey being a Skywalker, but this visual callback is still pretty cool. #TheLastJedi pic.twitter.com/b824wWhua9
