"The Original Trilogy" has a nigh-religious tone to many Star Wars fans, as they fondly remember the first three films released, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. Now, fans of a new generation will get the chance to see those movies on the big screen once more, thanks to a special tour put together by Alamo Drafthouse they're calling "Return of the Trilogy.
The tour will go across the country this August, playing the first three films in the Star Wars universe in a special back-to-back-to-back triple feature played in larger, traditional theaters. Aside from special screenings like the all-seven-episodes marathon shown to celebrate the release of The Force Awakens, big screen viewings of the original trilogy have been rare.
Tickets for the tour will go on sale on "Star Wars Day," May the Fourth, May 4, 2016 at ReturnOfTheTrilogy.com.
"It's always been a dream to show the original STAR WARS trilogy again - somehow, someway," says Alamo Drafthouse's VP of Special Events, Henri Mazza in a press release. "Seeing the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time is a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun. When the films became available to book for screenings like these, we jumped at the chance to do something big."
There is one slight caveat - the versions that will be screened are the 1997 re-release, not the original theatrical versions.
The showings won't just be the movies, they'll have special content before and between films, trivia contests, actual props from the movies, and "other special surprises" as well, and costumes are encouraged. The full list of current locations and dates are below.
