After months of waiting, fans will finally see the resolution of The Walking Dead's biggest cliffhanger. The hit drama ended last season by teasing fans about a major character's death at the hands of Negan, and the Season Seven premiere will finally reveal who the poor victim is. However, rumors have been swirling that more than one character will be offed when the show returns, but Robert Kirkman says multiple fatalities might be too much.

Kirkman spoke to Hollywood Reporter about the show's upcoming premiere and said "one death should be enough for this audience."

"I don't know that our audience is necessarily bloodthirsty enough to be wanting to hear that there's another death," he explained. "One death should be enough for this audience and one death will definitely have the affect that we're looking for. It will certainly set the stage for a very exciting season."

"It's going to be a rough, rough, rough episode emotionally. Knowing what's coming and knowing what happens, it's really hard for me to watch. We've gotten to know all these characters over so many years and to see not only the one that dies but how it affects all the other characters involved? You can feel their emotions because you know their relationships and what they're experiencing. It's a really gut-wrenching episode. I don't think anyone will be hungry for more blood when the episode airs."

Of course, people have been suspecting that Negan would kill more than one character for awhile now. Those rumors only multiplied after executive producer Greg Nicotero did an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he said, "If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn't have felt our characters in Season 7 the way they need to."

If you look closely, Nicotero doesn't stick to the singular tense in that statement; He goes full-on plural when talking about 'deaths.' His words spurred fans to wonder whether two or more characters are killed in the Season Seven premiere. Of course, there's always the chance that the interview contains a typo, but fans seem set on sticking to the multiple deaths idea.

AMC has done all they can to limit spoiler leak from the Season Seven premiere. Kirkman said they went to major lengths like "not sending screeners out [to press sites]."

"We've employed body doubles in places to make people think that people are in places that they're not. It's pretty exciting to try and hide certain things," he continued. "This is a big season, so we're not just protecting things that happen in the first episode; there are things that happen in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth episode and beyond. We're trying to maintain that secrecy so when people watch the show, they can have that same experience they have in the comic where you don't know what's going to happen and it comes as an exciting surprise as the story moves forward."

The Walking Dead returns on October 23 at 9 PM ET on AMC.
