It’s not often that a spin-off series is met with the same kind of adoration and critical acclaim as the original, but Better Call Saul has done just that. The Breaking Bad prequel may not receive the same level of dramatic hype as its predecessor, but the series is still able to captivate audiences on a weekly basis.

If die-hard Breaking Bad fans have had one complaint with Better Call Saul, it’s that the show doesn’t always have the visceral thriller elements of the original. It may be intense, but it’s a little lighter in tone than the story of Walter White.

Fortunately, those two worlds are going to collide in the upcoming third season. While Jimmy won’t officially meet Walter yet, viewers will start to see the style shift back towards Breaking Bad.

At the season three premiere, creator Vince Gilligan revealed that the show is definitely on its way to Breaking Bad this season.

“Things get quite a bit darker in season three, more ‘Breaking Bad’-like. We didn’t set out for that to happen, it came to us organically.”

Star Bob Odenkirk followed that notion up, and said Jimmy is making that kind of personal transition as well.

“There’s a big movement into the character of Saul Goodman,” Odenkirk said. “This is the first time he presents himself as Saul Goodman, which is actually kind of fun. There’s more of an internal movement of this really sweet character, Jimmy McGill, who kind of shuts himself down and does some very callous things that are very Saul Goodman-like. It’s just sad. It made me feel bad.”

Yes, Jimmy will finally make the move to Saul Goodman that everyone has been waiting three years for.

Be sure to tune in to Better Call Saul‘s third season premiere, April 10 on AMC.
