But many episodes of Orange Is The New Black’s fifth season, which isn’t supposed to hit the streaming service until June 9th, just got leaked online by hackers (or a hacker) who promise to release more if Netflix doesn’t respond to their blackmailing demands.

As reported by Engadget, an individual or collective known as TheDarkOverlord, posted the first episode of the new series to torrent sites along with demands for a “ransom.” Netflix did not respond to their immediate request, and TheDarkOverlord subsequently posted the first ten episodes of the latest season.

The hacker(s) released a statement on Pastebin in which they also called out ABC, National Geographic, Fox, and IFC, stating there’s more on “the feasting menu soon.”

It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was. We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves. And to the others: there’s still time to save yourselves. Our offer(s) are still on the table – for now.

The posted files on the site TorrentFreak indicate the show was obtained through an audio production company called Larson Studios, which typically provides Automatic Dialog Replacement (ADR) services.

Netflix’s only statement on the hack says: “We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.”

It remains to be seen whether TheDarkOverlord will release the rest of the season or whether Netflix will get the episodes on their service ahead of its scheduled premiere in response.
