Fox’s Animation Domination block has been the place to go for animation fans looking for more of the hilarious fare created by the network. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad have long been stalwart parts of the platform, though there was another series that earned its time slot among these heavy hitters. Earlier this week, a director on a major Fox series revealed that their series had been canceled, though nothing had officially been released. Unfortunately, the worst-case scenario has been confirmed as Fox has released an official statement regarding the show’s end.

The Great North has been officially canceled by Fox, with Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn sharing his thoughts via the heartbreaking news, “We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren, and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North. It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons ‘The Great North’ brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.” The previous episode of the series aired on September 14th, originally ending season five but now acting as the series finale for the fan-favorite. Ironically enough, the recent season finale worked quite well as a grand finale thanks to paying tribute to some of the moments that kicked off the series.
Say Goodbye To The North
As mentioned earlier, The Great North director Aimee Steinberger had shared the unfortunate news this week via her Blue Sky social media account. While not an official statement from Fox, it was clear that the end was nigh for Beef and his clan. The statement from Steinberger read as such, “Sadly, we got the news today that The Great North is officially cancelled. I’m pretty sad about it. It’s one of a very small number of shows I’ve worked on that I genuinely loved, and I really loved the whole talented crew I worked with. I feel lucky to have been there. In a world of cynical and mean shows, The Great North was not that. The family loves and supports each other. I want to work on more shows like that. Either blood or found family.”
While The Great North might be over, fans can rewatch the series at their leisure, or discover it for the first time, on Hulu. First hitting the screen in 2021, the series followed a single dad living in Alaska, attempting to raise his four children. Sporting an animation style similar to that of Bob’s Burgers, the show might not have hit the same heights as The Simpsons and/or Family Guy, but the fact that it garnered five seasons proved that it found its following. While it might not fully heal this wound, the fact that The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad means that Fox isn’t pulling its foot off the gas when it comes to the animation world anytime soon.
