The Internet is still buzzing about the possibility of Karl Urban starring in the upcoming Judge Dredd: Mega-City One television series. While many had doubted that Urban would get a chance to reprise the role, Urban hinted at last weekend’s Star Trek Las Vegas Convention that discussions are underway.
And now, one of the show’s crew members has backed up Urban’s statement. Jason Kingsley, an executive producer on the series, recently confirmed to ScreenGeek that talks with Urban are ongoing.
“We have been in discussions with Karl about his possible involvement in Judge Dredd: Mega-City One for some time,” Kingsley said. “These conversations continue but we’re keen, he’s keen โ it’s just a case of us making sure this show is everything we want it to be.”
While Urban’s first turn in the role in 2013’s Dredd was not very successful at the box office, it eventually grew into a cult classic amongst fans. According to Kingsley, doing the property right again is a priority for everyone involved in Mega-City One, as made evident by the reported two-year wait for the series’ debut.
“This needs to be done right โ the fans deserve it,” Kingsley said. “Our team is working hard on scripts for the first season, creating engaging multi-thread storylines, one of which will be Dredd’s, but others which take us into the wider world of Mega-City One.”
Fans will just have to wait and see if Urban will be the one to lead fans on the journey through that wasteland.

In Dredd, Mega-City One is a vast, violent metropolis where felons rule the streets. The only law lies with cops called “judges,” who act as judge, jury, and executioner, and Dredd (Karl Urban) is one of the city’s most feared. One day, Dredd is partnered with Cassandra (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities. A report of a terrible crime sends Dredd and Cassandra to a dangerous area controlled by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), a drug lord who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.
