The only thing worse than having to work on your birthday is working on your birthday and accidentally bashing your head open on a concrete pillar, but that's exactly what happened to Ben McKenzie.

On the Gotham set on Friday, McKenzie injured his head during an action sequence, and he had to go to the hospital to get all bandaged up. Ever the trooper, McKenzie shared all the gory photos with his fans on Instagram.

McKenzie wrote, "Happy Birthday to me. Fight sequence gone awry. Don't ram your head into concrete pillars kids." Very sage advice from Detective James Gordon. In the spirit of sixties TV Batman, McKenzie also added, "Holy concrete wall, Batman!"

Despite the rather nasty gash on his head, McKenzie doesn't plan to miss any more work. Along with a photo of the doctors stitching him up, he wrote, "Doc Sherman at New York-Presbyterian, you are a career saver. Thanks for stitching me up nice. Back to work Monday."

Gotham will premiere on FOX on Monday, September 22, 2014.
