Ernie Hudson Thinks All-Female Ghostbusters Is A Bad Idea

We found out yesterday that a Ghostbusters reboot was on the way, and that it would feature an all-new, all-female cast of characters.

Ernie Hudson is the first of the original cast members to weigh in on the announcement, via The Telegraph, and he seems less than excited about the idea.

"I heard it was going to be a total reboot, and that it would have nothing to do with the other two movies," he said. "If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it's all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters?"

"I love females. I hope that if they go that way at least they'll be funny, and if they're not funny at least hopefully it'll be sexy. I love the idea of including women, I think that's great."

"But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don't think the fans want to see that."

"Maybe it will come out and be the most amazing thing, but in my opinion I think it would be wrong to do another movie that didn't include the guys. And that didn't include me!"

Director Paul Feig has left the door open for Hudson and the other original Ghostbusters cast members to make cameo appearances in the reboot, so if Hudson really wants to be included, he has his chance.

Personally, I have more interest in Josh Tranks "Fantastic Flop" than an All Female Ghostbusters

  2. Sign up Maya Rudolph and I'm there. Maybe Charlie Day could be the Janine version.

  3. Ok... I need to rant about this....

I'm not sexist. I love female actresses in major roles but for the sake of this film it doesn't seem like it would flow as a sequel. Given where Ghostbusters 2 left off, they need to first update what happened (or is happening to) the original Ghostbusters.

If it's a reboot.. then it is going to fail miserably. Ghostbusters is not a movie you can dare reboot. The original is so good. This new movie needs to be a sequel or it needs to not happen at all.

The only way Ghostbusters 3 would work is if Winston, Ray and Peter are retiring (in light of Egon dying .. RIP Harold Ramis :(). I would want the original cast to be involved. It would not feel right to have a Ghostbusters film withoutRick MoranisSigourney WeaverErnie HudsonDan Aykroyd and Bill Murray.

The storyline could continue with the Ghostbusters losing business, or dealing with lawsuits/public scrutiny. I would love to see the original Ghostbusters in the suits again reminiscing about the good old days and being too stubborn to realize they might need help from a younger crew. Then we can see them passing on the baton to a younger generation (perhaps their embarrassed children who are in their 20's - 30's) ... which COULD include some females, but shouldn't be limited to an exclusively female cast.

I mean there are so many great actors who would fit right in as a Ghostbuster,Chris PrattJoseph Gordon-LevittRyan ReynoldsDamon Wayans, Jr.,Zachary Levi for example!

Also, if it isn't in bad taste I would love to see an homage to Harold Ramis as the ghost of Egon helps the Ghostbusters or makes a brief cameo.

Anyways... I guess we'll see what happens ....

  4. I guess it depends on who the female actresses are, but in general I don't care for the idea. A mixed cast makes much more sense to me and would be far more interesting.

I'll likely pass on this one.

    JMO.
