It seems that the Batman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be haunted by more than just Thomas and Martha Wayne's ghosts.

New reports are surfacing at Bad Ass Digest that one of Batman's allies will have already bitten the dust prior the Batman V. Superman's events. Turn away now if you don't want any spoilers.

Still with us? Fair enough. The latest rumor is that Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon will be dead and buried by the time that Batman clashes with the Man of Steel. Digest reports that in the film's script, there is a call for a shot of James Gordon's memorial plaque. Gordon wouldn't be the first dead ally to enter the film's rumor mill, as many reported several months ago that Batman V. Superman's universe would also have a dead Robin.

As saddening as it is to think that Gotham's top cop won't be in the film, it makes sense. The Batman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel will be quite the warhorse, with more than 10 years under his utility belt as the protector of Gotham City. That's a lot of time for friends and partners to fall in the line of duty.

Even though Gordon wasn't included in Batman V. Superman's casting, it's best to still consider this a rumor. Who knows—maybe the plaque was simply created for Gordon's years of service, and the Commissioner is off enjoying his well-deserved retirement.

Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
