Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice actor Jeremy Irons told Indiewire that Alfred Pennyworth won't be quite the same as fans might remember him from previous screen iterations when the Zack Snyder-helmed superhero mash-up comes to theaters in 2016.

In fact, he says, Alfred might be the perfect husband...

"Oh he'll be quite different. He has an interesting history," Irons said. "He's a very competent man. He's the sort of man I think anyone would like to be married to. He can sort of do everything: change light bulbs, blow up bridges if he has to."

The film, which just wrapped production, is generally understood to be heavily influenced by The Dark Knight Returns, but elements of Geoff Johns' more recent Batman: Earth One graphic novel, in which Alfred is a former member of the Royal Marines and a trusted family friend before he becomes the Waynes' butler, have been rumored as well.

The military background and no-nonsense demeanor is also in evidence in Fox's Gotham, in which the midseason finale saw Alfred square off with a trio of trained assassins.
