The Flash won the Favorite New TV Drama award at the People's Choice Awards tonight, marking a big win for The CW.

Jane the Virgin, the network's American reinterpretation of a telenovela about a young woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated, won Favorite New TV Comedy, making The CW the network with the best slate of new shows in 2015, according to the fans who voted.

The Flash beat out competition from fellow DC Comics adaptations Gotham and Constantine, as well as Forever and How to Get Away With Murder, for which star Viola Davis won a trophy.

The People's Choice Awards is an awards show wherein fans vote for the nominees, categories and the winners. It's also the first awards show of the year, which means a number of the winners will be taking the stage for the first of many times out between now and the end of the season.

Jane the Virgin has been nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series and Best TV Series for the Golden Globes Awards, putting the network into big races in that show for the first time.
