Few can argue that J.K. Simmons' interpretation of J. Jonah Jameson was the best that the character received in any medium, including the comics. So much so, it's no surprise that the recent Amazing Spider-Man franchise reboot didn't even bother including him in either film.

But with a new slate of Spider-Man films potentially on the horizon, the project's developers might once again cast Simmons as the Daily Bugle's cigar-chomping editor-in-chief. While it would indicate a back-to-basics approach for the struggling Spider-Man franchise, the rumors are far from concrete.

Simmons, however, might have let the news slip during a recent interview with The Howard Stern show (via CBM). When asked if he was going to ever play J. Jonah Jameson again, Simmons responded, "I just heard that we…that that's a possibility!"

"Possibility" is obviously miles away from "yes." But, seeing as how no one would have expected a cast member from the original Raimi trilogy to star in another Spider-Man film, his comments are certainly worth paying attention to. And when Simmons says that he just heard..something, it sounds like talks on another Spider-Man film are brewing.

As of now, there is no firm date for another Spider-Man film on Sony's schedule, other than that Amazing Spider-Man 3 was pushed back to 2018. A Sinister Six film is currently scheduled for November 11, 2016.
