Spider-Man Avengers: Age of Ultron

Back when news first broke that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures had been talking about the future of Spider-Man, we heard that a plan under consideration was to have Spider-Man debut in the Avengers: Age of Ultron after-the-credits scene. After that initial cameo appearance, Spider-Man would then play a much larger role in Captain America: Civil War.

With their official announcement on Monday, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures noted that the new Spider-Man would first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe, but they did not specify the movie. However, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that their sources are indicating that Spider-Man will appear in Captain America: Civil War.

While we have not gotten any confirmation as to what movie Spider-Man will initially appear in since the announcement was made, if the Wall Street Journal is correct about Captain America: Civil War, then it could conceivable reopen the possibility of Spider-Man appearing in an after-the-credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. While the majority of Avengers: Age of Ultron has finished filming, an after-the-credits scene can be filmed even at the last minute, as evidenced by the Shawarma scene in the Avengers.

Captain America: Civil War is scheduled to start filming in April, according to recent reports. If Spider-Man is indeed going to make his first major appearance in Captain America: Civil War, then it means that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will need to cast the new Spider-Man right away (assuming they haven't already). And if Marvel Studios has to cast Spider-Man now anyway for Captain America: Civil War, it would open up the door for them to include him in a last-minute after-the-credits scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron.
