Ryan Reynolds Says Debate Rages On About Deadpool's Rating

Ryan Reynolds began filming Deadpool last week and on Saturday he took some time away from production to do an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He did so, to promote his upcoming film with Helen Mirren, Woman in Gold. Of course, EW used the opportunity to ask him several questions about Deadpool as well.

Now that the film is moving full steam ahead the next bone of contention will be the rating of the film. Most fans view Deadpool as an R-rated character based on his vulgar dialogue and lust for violence, but PG-13 will allow more eyeballs to view it. Has its rating been decided yet? "That debate rages on," Reynolds revealed. "We'll see." 

Reynolds feels like a wish has been granted as he had hoped to star in a Deadpool film all the way back in 2005 and ten years later his wish has finally come true. But why did it take this long for 20th Century Fox to move forward with a movie about the Merc With A Mouth? "Because it's a really difficult character to put up on the screen for the studio," Reynols explained. "He's a character that's aware he's in a film, he's aware that he breaks the fourth wall. I mean, he does certain things that are unlike anything else in the X-Men Universe yet he is a part of the X-Men Universe. So it makes it a little challenging, I think, to find a way. He's so popular—the comic book alone [is] one of the most popular selling comic books of all time so it's exiting to be here shooting it. We don't have the budget that most X-Men movies do. In the super hero world, this would be considered an independent film."

Deadpool is being directed by Tim Miller, and will star Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin and Gina Carano. It will open in theaters February 12, 2016.
