Sony Pictures Entertainment has hired Jay Basu to pen the screenplay for their film adaptation of Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid video game, according to Deadline.

First, let's just acknowledge how nice it is that there is news to report, which means the movie is moving forward. Basu is relatively new, but is rising quickly in Hollywood. He co-wrote Monsters: Dark Continent and was hired by Universal to work on one of their classic monster films.

The film is being produced by Avi and Ari Arad, and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer).

The original Metal Gear Solid was released in July of 1987. Over those twenty-five years Konami has solid 31 million Metal Gear games.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases September 1.
