Star Wars Celebration Anaheim kicked things off in style today, with a brand new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
As you expect with any film as shrouded in secrecy as the seventh Star Wars, the trailer brought up a lot of questions about what certain images mean.
Here are five questions raised by second Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer.
Where is Darth Vader's helmet being kept?
It's Luke doing the talking at this point in the trailer, but the monochrome black pedestal that Vader's helmet is resting on suggests that someone with an Imperial or Sith allegiance has it in their possession. Is it there out of respect for the fearsome Dark Lord, or for a more practical purpose?
What's up with Luke's hand?
Presuming that the hooded figure in this shot is actually Luke, as the trailer seems to want us to believe, why has he traded the natural looking prosthetic hand he was given in The Empire Strikes Back for one that looks much more mechanical? Perhaps a sign of his becoming more like his father?
What's going on with this lightsaber?
During this part of the trailer, Luke mentions his sister, leading us to believe that it is Leia receiving the lightsaber. If you look closely, it looks like an alien is handing it to her. Is it Luke's? And if so, why is it being given to Leia? And why in this manner, and not personally by Luke?
What's with the shiny Stormtrooper and this new insignia?
All of the Stormtroopers have gotten a redesign, but we've only seen one that looks like chrome dome here, who is seen storming down a hall and piloting a Tie Fighter (assuming it's the same Trooper). There's also the insignia on the red banner behind the assembled legion of Stormtroopers, which is not the same as the Imperial insignia, suggesting that maybe some new organization is giving the orders.
Where are Han and Chewie?
The last scene in the trailer has Han telling "Chewie" they're home. The scene looks like they may be in a cantina on Tatooine, so perhaps it signals that Tatooine is a part of the movie, even if it was Jakku in the first trailer.
UPDATE: As some have pointed out in the comments, yes, this image does actually look like the Millennium Falcon. I think my brain was run dry from all of the desert landscapes in the trailer. The real question here is, how did they get separated from the Falcon in the first place?
