Disney and Marvel Studios have announced their estimate for the opening day box office of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Disney is estimating an $84.5 million opening day at the domestic box office for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The opening day totals include both the Friday box office, as well as the Thursday night preview showings.

The $84.5 million opening day is enough to surpass the $80.8 million opening day of the original Avengers movie. However, it is not enough to beat Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which still holds the opening day record at $91.7 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron will go down in the books as the second biggest domestic opening day ever.

As far as how the rest of opening weekend will play out, it's still up in the air as to whether Avengers: Age of Ultron will beat the $207.4 million opening weekend record of the first Avengers movie.

While the opening day numbers put Avengers: Age of Ultron on track to set a new record, the NBA playoffs, the NFL draft, the MannyPacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight, the NHL playoffs and the Kentucky Derby could pull fans away from movie theaters throughout the weekend.
