Several days ago, Marvel announced that The Hobbit and Sherlock star Martin Freeman joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. They didn't divulge his role. Mark Millar, the creator of the Civil War story arc in which the film is loosely based on, knows who Freeman is playing, and he's given a hint: not a superhero.

"I know who he's playing in the film, but I guess it's still a secret," Mark Millar told RadioTimes.com. "The character is not a super-person, it's somebody who's… well, I don't want to spoil it for anybody but he's not going to be in costume. He's a great actor he could play anyone – he could play Hit-Girl!"

Rumor has it that Freeman will play Everett Ross, a government liaison from the comics who becomes an expert on Wakanda and a friend to T'Challa, also known as Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters May 6, 2016.
