William Fichtner Cast In Independence Day 2, Two More Films Planned

William Fichtner has been cast in a lead role in Independence Day 2.

Fichtner will play a top military general. His role is said to be large in Independence Day 2, but will grow larger in the two films that Fox has planned to follow it.

Fichtner's long list of film credits include Heat, The Perfect Storm and Black Hawk Down.

Independence Day 2 will be set 15 years after the original film, when the aliens return to Earth. The film also stars Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, and Liam Hemsworth. Roland Emmerich returns to direct.

Independence Day 2 is scheduled to open on June 24, 2016.
